Probably you heard once, at least, ” Words have power”, you listen right. And if you listen that words don’t matter, well, right again!
Oh God, we are all feeling “the sky is falling” now moment. What is true, what is not, what can I believe?
Well, I would say that life is simple, but very complex if you try to understand. But since we are here, why not try it?
I understood both quotes before realizing they were the complete opposite, a contradiction to say the least. I would like to go straight for each one, shall we?
Words don’t matter. After a while learning about ego and practicing being present, you feel like fewer words are better. If you ever meditate with open eyes looking for everything around without putting a name, observing the thing or the moment you probably arrived in a moment of pure connection, (more than that but we don’t have words to describe write, I will stay with connection or “feel pure love”). You know what a bird is because you are it. You know what a tree is because you are it. You understand that words don’t make sense and etymology maybe become something curious and interesting because it makes you see that one thing has many words for many reasons in the world. And if you ever meditate in a class of a speech you maybe listen to the sounds and the words had no meaning anymore, they were just those curious sounds, you understand that you put the meaning into it and that everything you ever said maybe no one ever really understood, because the other person put its meaning into the sound you made.
For example, maybe someone said once: I love you. And you understood “I am sorry and disparaged, please don’t leave me”. Even if it seems a simple statement to understand each person can understand it differently.
Another example, once I was traveling and I said to my mother in a message: “It is 18 ºC here” She understood that is was very cold because she was in Brazil where this temperature is the coldest of winters, but for me was a warm temperature. She asks me to stay at home, I understood she didn’t understand, I said goodbye and all. Then I went to sunbathe in a park.
So, words don’t matter. Some will use to help you, some to try to make you less. If you are walking your path, none of it will matter.
Words are powerful. Here is the trick, in the second you say something with a bit of emotion you make those emotions twice stronger, as the statement (maybe more than twice). Once I read a mother representing a kid saying, “Mother I am starving” This wise woman knows words have power so she said: “Don’t say that, you don’t know what starve is and you don’t want to know it, don’t say it again”. Of course, the kid said someone always says it because it is a dramatic way to say I want to eat now. I desire to eat. My belly needs something solid…
Now you may ask, but I will need to think about all expressions I ever said? No. Probably the person this kid heard says it with no emotion in a moment that this person wants to eat and never suffer any delay to achieve a plate of food. But, if this person and the kid use it with emotion, probably even if it is a rich person it finds it difficult to eat sometimes. Food arrives late, it can’t find what it wants, its favorite restaurant is always full… Probably this person doesn’t live at easy receiving food at the moment the desire appears. You can always improve what you say and the way you say it, but you don’t need to worry so much. Just see what is stronger and may cause some delays you don’t want in your life and start to change it.
I hope this makes sense and helps you. I will live some books below I like and helps me in my spiritual path. (They are affiliates links).
